Q: Is this a video game/ARG/etc?

A: Ecodelia II is neither a video game, web browser game, ARG, or visual novel. The closest adjacent media would be Playstation Lain , the Myst trilogy, or Yume Nikki.

Q: How do I play or otherwise interact with Ecodelia II?

A: Like in the previously mentioned games, Ecodelia II is a non linear story (more of a recreation of a memory or feeling really.) You discover the story by clicking around different pages and files and drawing your own conclusions. At this point in time (Feb 2023) I have no set beginning and end, just a feeling I want to capture. As such, this project is up to your own interpretation.

Q: Why this format? Why neocities?

A: As I've gotten older and the internet has gotten more privatized and technology more advanced, I have started to grow weary of their algorithms and data collection. Most of all I hate the clinical, cold, minimalist design that has taken over modern UI. Somewhere along the journey of being a child zillenial with minimal parental supervision and unfettered conputer access, somewhere in between all those bespoke fansites for games, anime, and obscure media, a certain aesthetic and ethos stuck in the rock tumbler of my mind. Memories of exploring the burgeoning technology of the late 90s and early 00s are some of the happiest times I can recall. The hostile enviroment of social media doesn't have that same cozy feeling. But I realized that it doesn't have to be this way. I realized we can opt out, unsubscribe from the sterile, curated, newsfeeds. Fortunately I have found a group of like minded people who want to take the web back from GAFA. Read more about that HERE

Also, beacause I haven't started tinkering with RPG Maker yet, and since not everyone knows how to use that application, I thought this was the most accesible- Both for others to discover and for me to build.
